The Heart of the Christian Faith
by Charles Allard

Christmas and Easter are the two most significant events in the Christian faith. At Christmas we celebrate the birth of Jesus. At Easter we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus from the dead.

If there was no resurrection, Christmas would be almost meaningless. There is a strong possibility that had Jesus not been raised from the dead, the story of his birth would have been lost in history or to say the least, rendered meaningless.

Paul said it best, (1 Corinthians 15:14) “If Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain.” He goes on to say that if Christ has not been raised we are still under condemnation for our sins.

The resurrection completed the Ministry of Salvation that Jesus came to earth to deliver to all who believe on Him. Paul adds (1 Corinthians 15:20), “But the fact is that Christ has been raised from the dead. He has become the first of a great harvest of those who will be raised to life again.” (NLT)

There are many in our world who are seeking to distort the personhood of Jesus Christ. At the top of the list is The Da Vinci Code book now being made into a movie which will be released in May with the catch phrase “Seek the Truth”. You will not find the true Jesus Christ in the Da Vinci Code. You will only find Him in the Bible and in the transformation of your life by faith.

At Westwood we worship the crucified and resurrected Christ, the Son of God, the Savior of the World, the one who was without sin but who gave His life as a ransom for our sins. (1 Corinthians 1:18) “For the word of the cross is to those who are perishing foolishness, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” We believe the cross and the resurrection of Jesus is the heart of the Christian faith.

To better meet the ministerial needs of our congregation, we have decided to institute a “Weekend Call Schedule” for the Westwood Ministerial Staff. Because the church office is not staffed on weekends, we often do not hear voice mail messages left on the general voice mailbox until Monday morning. The call schedule will provide the name and telephone numbers (home and cell) for the minister to contact with your ministry needs each weekend. We will publish the schedule in the newsletter and on our website (www.westwoodbc.org). We will also post information in each Sunday bulletin for the coming weekend. We hope this will help us better serve you.

Dear Westwood Church Family

Thank you for the lovely reception on February 26 marking the close of my ministry as Worship Leader. The cakes and goodies, the flowers, the decorations, and the occasion were all beautiful and delicious. I appreciate your blessings of affirmation for my ministry with you. I am humbled by your words. It has been my privilege and pleasure to serve God through my church and my church family as Worship Leader. We’ve seen many changes, but the one thing that remains constant is your warmth and love you share so abundantly. I shall sincerely miss the special relationship I’ve had with you as we worked together. It has truly been a highlight of my ministry.
I look forward to fellowship and service in the congregation with you as we continue Joining God in His Work at Westwood. As you know, I take worship very seriously, and I am confident that we will keep Worshiping God as a primary focus of our mission as a church.

I love you and I loved serving you,
Phil Stone
