Words from the "Interim"...
Wow! What a wonderful beginning of serving with you at this time in the life and ministry of Westwood Baptist Church! Linda and I express a deep appreciation for the very special way you have welcomed us into your church. Your kind words, smiles, laughter, encouragement, openness, warmth, handshakes and prayers have been refreshing and a blessing each time we have been with you during our first month. I am amazed at all the connections we have found with Ahoskie, Bertie County, Lillington, Chadbourn, Wallace and Campbell University. Thank you for sharing with me about these places in your life. You have excellent facilities for worship, Bible Study, discipleship, training, fellowship and more. I commend you for the vision, planning and construction of these facilities on 200 Westhigh Street. This is a great location to reach out to the community with such an opportunity to grow! You have an outstanding, committed and competent church staff. I have enjoyed getting to know and working with Mike, Caroline and Michelle on Sundays and Wednesdays and having conversations with Sandy and Becky by phone and email. Westwood is blessed to have such a team during this time. As we approach Easter, my words of encouragement would be:

So You're a Christian, Now What? April 6th I recently saw a bumper sticker that proclaimed, Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional. On the surface, that philosophy may sound appealing, but Scripture has different advice for the believer. 1 Peter 2:2-3 reads, “Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.” (NIV) Christianity is all about growth. Just as our physical bodies continually grow and develop, as Christians we should be consistently developing skills for functioning and growing in the Body of Christ. But too many Christian adults fail to thrive spiritually and as a result find themselves wandering in spiritual confusion and frustration, never understanding why they're so unsatisfied. If you can relate to this description, then we’re offering a bible study that might help. It’s called, So You’re a Christian, Now What? and is based on the book of that title written by Catherine Painter. This is a twelve week study that will be offered during the Sunday School hour (9:15-10:15) beginning April 6. The study will be taught by Mike Eddinger and will be limited to 16 participants. Offered for both new and long-time believers, participants will learn the similarities and differences in being born, and being born again; how to communicate with God in prayer and quiet times; how to feed themselves with God's Word; how to dress themselves in the armor of God; how to assume their role in the family using their talents and spiritual gifts; what it means to bear the family resemblance by manifesting the fruit of the Spirit; how to share their testimony; how to walk the road that leads to life; and how to talk the language of Christians. So whether you're a new Christian wondering where to go from here, or a long-time Christian who knows you've missed something somewhere along the way, we invite you to join us as we explore our spiritual journeys together. You can enroll by adding your name to the sign-up sheet on the bulletin board in Hall A. You can also read a review of this book at: |
