CONGRATULATIONS MIKE & MICHELLE

by Charles Allard

Mike Eddinger and Michelle Anderson are reaching a milestone in their lives May 12th & 14th. Both are receiving the Master of Divinity Degree and graduating from Campbell University Divinity School with honors. As a church family we extend our congratulations and blessings to them upon this significant achievement.

The church family is cordially invited to their “Hooding Service” on Saturday, May 12th at 2pm in Turner Hall on the Campbell University Campus and to their graduation on Monday, May 14, at 9:00am.

Mike and Michelle represent the very best that Campbell Divinity School has produced in its 11 year history. We are richly blessed to have them on the Westwood Staff. They have received accolades from their professors and administrators of the Divinity School. They have been an asset to the Campbell Divinity School and to all of us at Westwood.

The mission statement of Campbell University Divinity School dynamically describes the schools effort to prepare the best leaders possible for our churches. It is Christ centered, Bible based and Ministry Focused. We certainly see those qualities in Mike and Michelle.

On Sunday, May 6th, following the morning worship hour, the church family and friends are invited to a reception in the Fellowship Hall in Mike and Michelle’s honor. Mike and Michelle, we are proud of you!

BAPTIST MEN BREAKFAST
Saturday, May 19, 2007, 8:00am

Don McLamb and his crew will prepare breakfast. Everyone is invited to attend.

Dr. Maurice Cook, past president of NC Baptist Men, will be our guest speaker. He will be discussing Summerfest 2007. Summerfest 2007 is a unique opportunity to learn about sharing God’s love through missions around the world. This fun-filled day of learning will take place on Saturday, June 23 at the NCBM demonstration farm at Campbell University, Buies Creek, NC. This is a great opportunity for RA’s, GA’s, WMU, Baptist Men and everyone to come and learn about Global Missions in a hands-on experience.

There will be demonstrations on composting, drip irrigation, goat management, beekeeping, well drilling, and proper use of equipment used in disaster recovery and much more. Exhibits from many groups and organizations will be on display including Jungle Aviation and Research Services (JAARS), Equip International, North Carolina Baptist Men, Campbell University, WMU, Appalachia Coal Mining Ministry, just to mention a few.

Thanks to the children’s choirs for the beautiful musical they sang on April 18th, “Hallelujah! He Did It.” Thank you for the time and talent you shared!

Gulfport, Mississippi Trip May 5th - 12th

Westwood will be sending our sixth mission team to Gulfport, Mississippi, May 5-12 to assist with disaster recovery work on homes damaged by Hurricane Katrina. The team will leave on Saturday and return the following Saturday. Our church will provide transportation (rental van). Once on the site, NC Baptist Men will provide housing and meals. Each team member will be asked to contribute $10.00 per day ($60.00) to help cover the cost of food.

NC Baptist Men have committed to rebuild 700 homes in the Gulfport area. Over 480 houses have already been completed, but there is still a lot of work to do. No special skills are required, just a commitment to help someone in need and to share Christ’s love. There is always something that every volunteer can do. Sign up sheets are posted in hallway A and B. Contact Jim Canterberry for more information about participating.

RA ICE CREAM SUNDAE SALE

Wednesday, May 30, 2007

Following the RA/GA, Mission Friends
Recognition Service in the Fellowship Hall

Please come and enjoy an ice cream sundae, and at the same time help a young boy go to camp this summer.
2007 marks the 16th summer the NC Baptist Men’s Department and Prison Fellowship of NC will co-sponsor a week of camp at Camp Caraway for 120 boys, ages 9-13 who have a parent in prison. Camp Angel Tree has effectively touched the lives of many young boys in the past fifteen years by introducing them to Jesus Christ through time spent with positive Christian male role models. You can help us break the cycle of crime by introducing these boys to Jesus Christ at Camp Caraway. All proceeds from the ice cream sale will go to help fund Camp Angel Tree.

Rev. Terry Henderson to
Speak at Westwood May 27

On Sunday morning, May 27, Rev. Terry Henderson from Fayetteville, North Carolina will bring the morning message as part of our Memorial Day observance. Rev. Henderson currently serves at Canaan Christian Church in Louisville Kentucky as the Minister of Christian Education and Congregational Care. He is a graduate of National Louis University in business administration and is currently completing his final year of graduate studies at Campbell University Divinity School.

Pastor Henderson recently retired after 24 years of distinguished service with the United States Army. During his service, he traveled extensively while providing security protection to such dignitaries as Colin Powell, Norman Schwarzkopf, and Dick Cheney. Pastor Henderson’s final position in the Army was as the Special Agent in Charge at the 1st Special Operations Detachment - Delta.

Upon retirement from the military, he served as an Associate Pastor in Fayetteville, North Carolina, where he currently lives with his wife and partner in ministry for the past 20 years, Deanna. Together, they have two sons, Corbin, sixteen and Samuel, ten.

During his years in ministry, Rev. Henderson has developed a passion for leading others to Christ and making disciples through Christian education and practical Kingdom experience. We are delighted that he will come to the Westwood pulpit to share from his experience as both a soldier for the Lord and a soldier in the United States Army.

Easter Drive-Thru

A huge thank you to ALL who assisted with the Easter Drive-Thru! We had 172 cars in 140 minutes. We appreciate all the hard work of those 50+ people who helped with costumes, publicity, greeting, the outreach program booklets, snacks for the workers, characters, props, luminaries, special effects, tickets, narrators and sound help, suggestions, the policemen, and especially the prayers that were uplifted on behalf of this ministry.
What an inspirational experience for those who participated in the drama and for those who drove thru. Looking forward to expanding this event next Easter. We will be needing your help!
Please give prayerful consideration to this outreach event. Contact Ken Wilson (303-2154) or Caroline Allen (469-9393) to volunteer.
