Words from the "Interim"...

April was truly a great month at WBC! Each Sunday, worship focused on a special theme and the services were well planned around these respective themes. From the Lord’s Supper, to Youth Sunday, to Baptism, we have celebrated the work of God in the life and ministry of this great church. My thanks to “all” who provided leadership each Sunday! My thanks to you as a congregation for your support, prayers, kind words of encouragement and special note cards that have expressed your reception of me and my family and affirmation of my service with you as your interim pastor.

The witness of God at work in this church is evident in so many ways. Yet, I highlight the statements and commitment of Cindy Bolden in her testimony on April 20th that God has called her in Christian Ministry and she plans to enroll in the Divinity School of Campbell University. Her words “for 17 years this church has nurtured my life” are evidence of the work of God through this church and its members who have had an influence and a part in Cindy’s spiritual pilgrimage and calling. Let us continue to pray for Cindy and her family during these years of preparation, equipping and training.

I look forward to worship and other activities/church events of May. I encourage you to read carefully about all that is planned throughout this month that is listed in this newsletter. Plan to be present and invite a prospect to join you and your family at worship, at the picnic and at other times we gather as a church.

Blessings,
Dennis N. Bazemore

Red Springs, NC Mission Trip

May 10

A group from our church will be going to Red Springs, NC on Saturday, May 10. Many of Westwood members have been to Grifton, NC. Red Springs is a new “Mission Work Camp” similar to Grifton that has been established by NC Baptist Men. Much of the equipment that was in Gulfport, Mississippi, for Hurricane Katrina disaster relief work has been moved to Red Springs. Eddie Williams, who was in charge of the Gulfport operation, is heading up the work in Red Springs. Red Springs is located in Robeson County southwest of Fayetteville.

Men, women and youth can all participate. No special skills are needed - just willing workers. We will meet at the church and depart for Red Springs at 6:00am. We will work until 4:00pm and return to Cary by 6:00pm Saturday evening. Sign up sheets are posted in Hallway A & B. Please contact Jim Canterberry for details.

Coming Soon - A Westwood Cookbook

The Westwood Singles Ministry is in the planning stages of creating a Westwood cookbook. That’s right, all the recipes to those delicious meals you’ve been eating at Westwood gatherings could soon be on a shelf near you.

The Singles Ministry is working with a cookbook publisher to begin planning. Depending on the number of recipes submitted and the quantity of cookbooks ordered, the cookbooks will sell for approximately $20. All profits from the sale of the cookbooks will go to the DROP Fund.

It is estimated that we will collect recipes for about two to three months, organize and assemble, and then submit for printing. Printing and processing will take about two months. So we are hoping to have them in time for new dishes at Thanksgiving and special gifts for Christmas.

However, we need your help to make this a scrumptious success. So gather your favorites, and dust off or write down those recipes you’ve memorized. Hold on to them, and we will soon be asking you to share those treasured concoctions. And if you know of someone’s dish from a Westwood meal you would like to have, urge them to submit it and share it with us all.
