Thank You!

We want to thank you, the Westwood family, from the bottom of our hearts for the gracious outpouring of gifts, congratulatory cards, notes, emails, and personal best wishes offered upon our graduation from Campbell University Divinity School. To paraphrase Paul’s words in his brief letter to Philemon, “Friends, you have no idea how good your love and encouragement make us feel.”

The reception held in our honor on May 6 was almost overwhelming. We are very grateful to those who planned and worked so hard to carry out the event and to those of you who took the time to stop by and offer a personal word of congratulations. Also, your embracing of our family members who were present that day is greatly appreciated. They commented that they had never seen such an expression of love on the part of a church family, and we were able to simply tell them, “This is the Westwood way!”

We are humbled by your generosity expressed through the financial gift from the entire church that will enable us to spend some special time with our immediate families. These past four years of school have required many sacrifices from Ben, Marilyn and Angela, and we are thankful for your sensitivity in recognizing this and providing a means to help us spend some quality time together.

God has blessed us greatly by allowing us to serve the body of Christ which is Westwood Baptist Church. Throughout the difficult and often stressful process of earning our degrees, you have loved us, supported us and encouraged us every step of the way. We thank God for his call in our lives, and particularly for his call to Westwood. We look forward to serving alongside you for as long as he leads, pursing the call of being the presence of Christ in our community.

We love you and thank God for you all!

Michelle and Mike

Grifton Mission Trip

Saturday June 9

A group from our church will be going to Grifton, NC on Saturday, June 9. We will be working on a project called “Hope Builders.” This pilot project is being done through an agreement with NC Baptist and state government to eliminate some of the substandard housing in our state.
This is a good opportunity for a one-day mission trip for those who are unable to go to Gulfport, Mississippi.
Men, women and youth can all participate. No special skills are needed—just willing workers. We will meet at the church and depart for Grifton at 6:00am. We will work until 4:00pm and return to Cary by 6:00pm Saturday evening. Sign up sheets are posted in Hall A & B. Please call Horace Robertson (349-2302) for details.

The Carying Place

Westwood family, we have the privilege of helping out with The Carying Place Ministry 3 more times this year. The first date is Thursday, June 14 at 6:00pm at Greenwood Forest Baptist Church. There will be a sign up sheet in Hall A and a reminder in all the Sunday School classes 2 weeks prior to the event. We will also assist with the meal in August and November. The Carying Place, based in Cary teaches homeless families with children necessary life skills for attaining independent living while providing them with short-term housing support services.
We help by working with another church in providing a meal for about 30-40 people. We set up, serve and clean up so that the families can attend their weekly meeting with their counselors. Please consider getting involved with this wonderful ministry. For more information you can look at their web site www.thecaryingplace.org or contact Ruth Revelle.

Prayer Room

In 1 Thessalonians 5:17 we find encouragement to “pray without ceasing.” In a world that is so loud and chaotic, quiet time with God often gets pushed to the side. If you are searching for a quiet place to spend time with God in prayer and meditation, we invite you to come and use the Prayer Room in Hall B. It is available Monday through Friday from 9:00am -4:00pm and on Wednesdays and Sundays, whenever the doors are open.
