Church Council Names Planning & Building Committee
by Charles Allard

Tim Bolden has been named as the chairperson for the new Planning and Building Committee which will lead Westwood to a new and exciting phase of future development.

Tim comes to this new responsibility with a strong background of experience. He led the church in the planning and building of our first construction on High House Road. He also served on the Planning and Building Committee of our present facility.

With Tim’s input, the Church Council named the following people to serve on the new Planning and Building Committee: Ray Beale, Charlie Johnson, Dubba Lucas, Rob McLain, Betty Rabb, and Glynda Rich. Other names and subcommittees may be added as needed.

The Planning and Building Committee will study our current building use, programs and facility needs. They will make recommendations to the church about future use of our 11 acres and what we should add to enhance our ministry to the community and world.

The challenge of this new committee will require input from the church body, committees and church staff. They will seek the advice and counsel of experts in many areas of church life and development and at appropriate times make recommendations to the church family. All financial needs are subject to the approval of the church body.

Please keep this committee and the exciting future of Westwood in your prayers. It is imperative that we follow the leadership of the Holy Spirit and join God in the work that He is doing.

Operation In As Much

October 7, 2006
9:00am ~ 12:00 Noon
It’s time to add muscle to your spiritual growth. Working as a team, in only one day, our church members can make a big difference in our community. OIAM is a one-day blitz by Christians performing hands on mission work for folk whose needs are great. Here are some suggestions: visiting nursing homes and shut-ins, home repairs, yard work, and sewing projects.
This mission day is for all ages. Start talking with your Sunday School classes and look for the sign up sheet on the bulletin board in Hall A.

Inreach Ministry Expanding

The Westwood Inreach Ministry is changing to meet expanded needs of our church family. More information will soon be shared with you during Sunday School and in the Worship Service about this expanded ministry. In order to be more effective in ministering to our Westwood Church Family, the Inreach Ministry needs volunteers to help in regularly phoning our fellow members who need encouragement. There will be a sign-up period in the coming weeks. We ask that you prayerfully consider how God might have you serve in this ministry. Although you may have signed-up previously, please consider signing-up again during this sign-up period. In the meantime, if you have questions or need further information, please contact Sarah Cooke.

Find Help at DivorceCare

DivorceCare is a special weekly seminar and support group for people who are separated or divorced. It’s a place where you can be around people who understand what you are feeling. It’s a place where you can hear valuable information about ways to heal from the hurt of divorce.

DivorceCare groups meet every Sunday night from 5:00-6:30pm at Westwood Baptist Church in Room 209. Brochures are available in the church lobby, or call the church office (469-9393) for more information or to register. You can also log onto this website for more information: www.divorcecare.com.

We're Searching For Volunteers

Please call the church office if you would like to volunteer to straighten the sanctuary every week or on a rotating basis. This would include straightening the hymnals and Bibles, picking up any papers and replenishing the offering envelopes. Please call if you are interested in this very important job.
